by Richard Quinn
The late bishop Tiberius Mugendi told people that Dick Quinn left the diocese of Kisii because of his love for video productions. If he had said that I was looking For the latest technology for instant pictures and to improve the audiovisual capability of the first pastoral center in Kenya, Viongozi Center, he would have been correct. Nineteen years in electronic communication changed my life and my whole understanding of how you communicate the Word of God. This electronic ministry has enables me to reach thousands of Catholics across the continent and beyond. My pulpit is everywhere. Hundreds of people have said how grateful they are for our African videos on pastoral and social concerns. Our educational library is the finest anywhere. Recently several Lutheran pastors told me how they have used our videos in workshops and seminars. “The Church in the Neighborhood is their favorite.”
Our objective is to tell the stories of faith yet untold. One recent video, Servants of Love, the story of Fr. Godfrey Biseko tells such a story. It will soon be aired on Kenya Broadcasting Company. To date we have produced more than 170 productions of every kind. We are about 85% self-reliant and are very competitive with the world of video productions. In video, quality is the name of the game. It doesn’t come cheap and no one pays attention to you until you prove yourself on the screen. Seeing is believing.
The electronic age is just beginning and I pray that our Catholic church
sees this and will insure that Ukweli Video will continue forever!
