The Catholic Foreign Mission Society of America, popularly known as the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers, has worked in Africa since 1946. These Maryknoll Missioners are Catholic Priests and Brothers from the United States of America. In response to their own Christian faith, they have committed themselves to lifelong service to mission outside of their home nation.
Originally directed to share the Good News of Salvation with the peoples of Tanzania and Kenya, Maryknoll's missionary endeavors now extend to five African countries, Maryknoll's Africa Region. Evangelization is central to this work in its various forms – including integral human development. It is our belief that every human being in every culture has the right to hear the Good News that was proclaimed by Jesus Christ in word and deed. After hearing the Word and witnessing its power, it is God's action in their hearts that draws them closer to their Creator. Through our own ministries of word and deed, Maryknoll in Africa shares the Gospel message of God's Love for all people.
Through this web site, we would like to share with you a bit of our journey.
This is a work in progress, so please check back here often as we continue to add more material: biographies of the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers working in Africa, their personal reflections on mission, and stories about their life and ministries.
